We were seated upstairs and it was really warm up there (thermostat said 78) and the ambiance is meh so next time I'm asking to stay downstairs. However the food is sooo good! The portions are surprisingly large. I am not a huge eater but still I took home half of my beef bourginon. If your meal doesn't come with fries get them for the table. They are crazy good. I don't know who sources their baguettes but they are amazing. Service is attentive but not overbearing. We've been several times and this is one my favorite restaurants.
Wish I tried this place sooner - best table bread and butter I have EVER TRIED! no exaggeration. Came here on the last day of restaurant week per recommendation from my sister, and tried a number of dishes. Aside from the delicious tableside bread, we tried the grilled octopus and escargot for appetizers. Both were great, very heavy handed with the flavors though. I love the pistachios as part of the escargot. And hefty portion of tender octopus as well - very worth it! The mains were not as impressive, as we ordered the pork schnitzel and filet medallions. Both were decent, but the bed of veggies the schnitzel sat on felt like frozen bagged veggies. And the filets were over salted. We also ordered a side of fried artichoke hearts, which came with a delicious garlic aioli. For dessert, we got the red velvet cake, but it was nothing special. Overall, very impressed by the appetizers, and the ambiance inside is nice as well. Come here for the bread!!
Lovely Brasserie in bustling Clarendon location at Washington Boulevard and N. Highland Street. We enjoyed the outside seating for a enjoyable Summer lunch. Inside looks quite inviting with a large, well-appointed bar. The warm bread for starters looks and tastes wonderful. Lovely opening as we enjoyed fresh, delicious bread with our beers (FYI--we recommend the Bear Chase Kodiak Kolsch). We started with Oysters & Hanger Steak Tartare, which comes w/ Red Watercrest Salad, Gaufrette, Tiny Pickles and Dijon. The Tartare might take you out of your comfort zone but we both enjoyed this unique dish. The Oysters did not receive the same accolades; next time we would replace with one of the Mussel Pots. Main course included Hanger Steak Frites w/ Bearnaise Sauce and the Miso Salmon w/ Mustard Creme Sauce & Honey-Glazed Brussel Sprouts. Both entrees were declared winners. Also the Bearnaise is a matter of pride for Lyon Hall for good reason. Our desserts somehow got lost in the busy lunch rush. We had to wait well-over twenty minutes, which was a downer! Tried the Bittersweet Chocolate Mousse w/ Blackberry Coulis and the Red Velvet Cake w/ Cherry & Vanilla Bean Compote! Red Velvet Cake was okay but the Mousse was not great! Absolutely we will return soon! Follow suggestions above, including skipping the desserts and you will not be disappointed.
Every time I dine here, I get an exceptional experience thanks to the excellent service and delicious food. We made a reservation on a Thursday night and were promptly seated outside when we arrived. They have an extensive drink menu and we decided to try the sangria specials. Both were divine! The second one was bright and fruity - perfect for a summer evening outside. I ordered my favorite dish - Thai curry mussels. The dish never fails to please. The fresh mussels were cooked to perfection and the flavors of the broth were balanced and delicious. My date ordered the plat du jour which was fish and chips. It was perhaps one of the best fish and chips we've had! Our server CHRISTINA was fantastic! She was professional, friendly and attentive. Making sure our glasses weren't empty and we were happy with our meal. The runners were just as friendly. Our runner accidentally dropped one piece of fish before placing the plate on the table. He quickly apologized and promised to be back with another. Several minutes later, he returned with 2 more pieces! Reservations are highly recommended for this restaurant. You won't be disappointed!
The grilled branzino I had here last night was soooo good that I am still thinking about it! The sparkling wine I got off the happy hour menu also paired with it well. I would definitely recommend this dish here. The whole plate tasted so good!
I've had great experiences at Lyon Hall over the years. They have one of the best happy hours in the DC area! While the service wasn't as great as I remember, the HH deals on the oysters, mussel pots & cocktails made up for it.
I got the thai curry musells with fries and WOW it was worth it! the quantity was huge of the mussels! i will 100p just come back for the mussels! it was AMAZING and so flavorful and so fun to eat as well! the fries were not as great but the mussels made up for the fries! the service was pretty fast at the place and they were super accomodating for my friend who had a kid as well! the ambiance was pretty coool! it was more upscale but not to the point where you had to really dress up! 100000p would come back and recommend to anyone
Food is great and on the pricier side. Their snail dish was amazing. Dessert was okayish. Love the staff and friendly service. They remembered my friend as she went there the week before. They takes time and make you feel welcome. The restaurant looks very nice with beautiful lighting (at dinner).
